How to report a swarm of honey bees:
Honey bees swarm when their colony, or hive, becomes too congested. Honey bees normally swarm in the Spring – it is very rare to have a swarm any other time of year, and people often mistake yellow jackets or other types of wasp nests for a swarm of honey bees.
If you see a swarm of honey bees, either a ball of bees or thousands of bees flying around (see photos below), scroll down and click the “Report a Bee Colony” button to submit a report to www.beeswarmed.org. A notification will then be sent to any beekeepers who have registered to claim swarms in your area.
Please have the following information ready in order to complete the form
- Contact name & number
- Swarm address, approximate height, and how long it’s been there
- Photo, if possible
- Any other important details
If you cannot submit the form for some reason, please text (or call if you cannot text) Ron Hatley, swarm commander: 704-519-9300

Be sure you are reporting honey bees and not a bumblebee or yellow jacket!
